Maple sweetens the day
Looking for an alternative to white refined sugar? Maple sugar and maple syrup are two staples in our household that add sweetness to whatever we desire. First, there are the common breakfast foods like pancakes. Here in town we have a place that sells many treats without refined sugar, using maple. Both my husband and I (and even our daughter, occasionally) yearn for something sweet. One thing to consider is maple syrup must be "pure maple" because often in the grocery stores maple syrups contain refined sugar and other nonsense ingredients that aren't necessary in something already so sweet. My advice is to buy maple syrup and sugar in bulk.

Great blog! Another alternative to sugar is Agave Nectar. My husband and I use it ice teas, on pancakes/waffles, that kind of thing. Costco sells an organic agave nectar we enjoy.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Elaine (: I really appreciate your comment and tip.
ReplyDeleteHi Angela,
ReplyDeleteBorislav and I just recently discovered this food store semi-close to where we live in Evanston. The store, I believe, has an Asian "twist" with lots of wonderful products one would not be able to find at Jewel or any other grocery store that I am familiar with.
One item that we were particularly impressed with is honey cactus powder. It tastes a lot like sugar and honey...in combination. It's very good and it could probably serve as a substitute for sugar. :-)
